SUNDAY// LLC kickstarter
Sunday was the day of our LLC kickstart event. I was excited to finally meet people from the first floor, as well as finally see Sophie, the Arts LLC coordinator! She was adorable and excited about art, as always. We went through logistics and general goals of the LLC before taking the bus over to the Opera House to see a Modern dance performance. It was very cool– the first act had a slow, ritualistic theme, and the second was faster paced and more erotic. Both were intriguing, and left most of us struggling to find the appropriate words to describe what we thought it meant, but a few people offered plausible summaries that satisfied our discussion. I’m sure things will be different than last year’s LLC, but I’m excited for this group.
WEDNESDAY //
Wednesday, I had a field study for my Creative Industries class. We visited Copenhagen Bombay, an animation studio. It was pretty cool, but I definitely feel a bit of an outsider on this class– intro business seems like a lot of basic psychology/ common sense, but I’m not yet to accustomed to thinking in that frame of mind.
THURSDAY //
Thursday was incredibly busy with classes, as usual. I love love love Watercolor class– Søren is an incredible architect and teacher, and after class I’m always left wishing it met more often than just once a week. He wanders around the room while we paint, sometimes engaging us in conversation about our lives here.
In the afternoon, I got to skip Creative Industries since they were watching Festen, a dogme movie that I had seen and studied last semester. It was nice to have some time free, so I visited friends in their respective studios.
In the evening, Sophie took us all to Papøerin to visit Copenhagen Contemporary. I had already visited all the exhibits being shown, but it was nice to revisit. I most of the time in the “Sorrow” exhibit. With each repetition of the song I felt something completely different. It was very cathartic, to have the time and space to grieve with guidance but with no distraction.
SATURDAY //
In the afternoon, those of us left on our floor went to the housing event intended to introduce us to the Green LLC students that lived upstairs. Unfortunately, none of them showed up, and only 3 people from downstairs were free, but the few of us made the best of things and had a nice bonfire with Lauren and Caroline. They also taught us how to make Snobrød– bread that you make by wrapping dough around a stick and cooking over a fire. Det var meget hyggeligt! (It was very cozy).
CONCLUSION //
This week challenged a lot of my ideas about what this semester will be like, but I have been through and thrived among all of these things and more in my short time here, and I am determined to continue to do so. I am excited and motivated to dedicate more time and energy into my creative work here instead.
